TREMEZZO
The area of Tremezzo is one of the most popular tourist attractions on Lake Como and is located on the western shore. For some time now Tremezzo, along with the villages of Lenno and Mezzegra, have become a 'commune' known as 'Tremezzina'. Nestled in a sheltered bay, midway between Mezzegra and Cadenabbia, gives the village an ideal location.

Tremezzo has been inhabited since Roman times and many ancient ruins are still visible today. At one time wars between Como and Milan involved the town and it was completely destroyed, but it did recover and then became part of the Visconti area. From around the 1600's the town again began to flourish which saw business grow with other European countries.

There are many places of interest in this area, but the spectacular 'Villa Carlotta' is without doubt the most famous tourist attraction in Tremezzo, it is open to the public and a visit here is essential. Built in 1690 for the Milanese Marchese Giorgio Clerici, it has fountains, sculptures and a magnificent Italian garden. Another outstanding attraction is the statue of the Madonna Nera (the Black Virgin). The Swiss Catholic Aschler family initially brought the statue to Italy and it is now on show at the Church of Santa Maria.

You can travel around the Lake by car and bus. We would always recommend using the ferry service if possible, it is more relaxing and scenic. There is a passenger ferry at Tremezzo and quite close by at Cadenabbia there is car ferry. We have added a number of useful links below that will make it easier to plan your trip .

If you like walking then try Greenway del Lago di Como. This is a wonderful walk along Lake Como from Colonno to Cadenabbia. You will find villas, gardens, Roman antiquities, quaint villages, local restaurants and great lake views. The Greenway walk is 10.5 km in its entirety. The walk is shown in three sections, doing a round trip on each section. Although much of the walk is on flat ground, please be aware that there are some parts that rise steeply from the lake.

Local to Tremezzo are many restaurants and good places to relax. One of our favourites is the Cantina Folie wine bar in Tremezzo. This is located up on the first terrace behind the row of lake front restaurants and shops. Visit this link for their website.
